BOZEMAN -- Montana State quarterback DeNarius McGhee and linebacker Jody Owens were named to the American Football Coaches Association FCS All-America team.

The team singles out 11 players on both offense and defense, as well as three specialists, making it one of the most prestigious All-America teams.

McGhee earned his second Big Sky Conference offensive MVP award this season after leading the Bobcats to a 10-1 regular season record and a third consecutive league crown.

The junior from Euless, Tex., ranks18th in the FCS in total offense. His 30 career victories and 70 career touchdown passes rank No. 1 in Montana State history. McGhee is the first Bobcat quarterback to be named a first-team All-American.

MSU’s fourth Big Sky defensive MVP in the last 10 seasons, Owens leads the Bobcats’ defense with 90 tackles. He has registered 12 ½ tackles for loss, including four sacks and four forced fumbles.

Owens, a senior from Mesquite, Texas, was also one of only two unanimous first-team All-Big Sky players this year.

“This is a tremendous honor for two players that have meant so much to this football program,” said Montana State coach Rob Ash. “Jody and DeNarius are both extremely productive on the field and they both represent all the attributes that our program tries to stand for.”

Montana State hosts Sam Houston State in a quarterfinal playoff game Friday at 6 p.m.
