Wilson Brott of Billings West and Koni Dole of Huntley Project have been invited to walk on to the Montana State football program.

Bobcats coach Rob Ash said Brott is being brought in as a tight end, and that Dole will be used at linebacker. The two were among five walk-ons announced by the school on Monday.

The other players are Bozeman wide receiver John D’Agostino, Kalispell Glacier running back Noah James, and Missoula Hellgate receiver-defensive back Hunter Mahlum.

“These are players we recruited to join our program,” Ash said, “because we think they will compete on the field, compete for scholarships, and help us win games. They are all smart, tough, strong kids. At our level there isn’t enough scholarship money to sign everyone, and we’ve brought some of this school’s best players ever into our program as preferred walk-ons.”

The 6-foot-5, 203-pound Brott threw for more than 700 yards as West’s quarterback last fall.

The 6-1, 201-pound Dole, who had his lower right leg amputated after breaking it during a game in October of 2012, played both offense and defense at Huntley Project with the aid of a prosthetic.

“Koni is one of the most courageous athletes that I’ve ever known,” Ash said. “He is a super-tough, dedicated, multi-sport athlete who is very strong and very committed. I’m looking forward to trying him out as a linebacker.”

What a fiasco. Central Arkansas made a huge comeback in the fourth quarter against the Bobcats, but MSU held on for a 43-33 victory. The game was well in hand for MSU early, and that became dangerous as the Bears fought back.
