Former University of Montana guard Will Cherry has agreed to a two-year deal worth the NBA minimum with the Toronto Raptors, a source informed Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.
Cherry was not drafted out of college and was forced to have foot surgery. But last season he averaged 11.6 points, 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for an NBA Developmental League team in Canton, Ohio.
His big break likely came as a result of his play for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ summer league squad in Las Vegas this month.
The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive stalwart from Oakland is reportedly expected to sign a partially guaranteed deal in the coming days.
