MISSOULA -- The University of Montana released its 2013 football schedule Wednesday, a 12-game slate that features six home games and five matchups with teams currently ranked in the Football Championship Subdivision poll.
The Grizzlies open at home on Aug. 31 against one of the premier teams in the FCS, Appalachian State. It is the second half of a home-and-home series with the Mountaineers. Montana lost 35-27 at Appalachian State in its second game this season.
UM plays four Big Sky Conference home games, beginning with Portland State on Oct. 5. The Griz play back-to-back league games at home against Cal Poly (Oct. 19) and Eastern Washington (Oct. 26).
The final home league contest is against Weber State on Nov. 16. The Griz host Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State on Sept. 21.
Montana’s first Big Sky road game is Sept. 28 at Northern Arizona. The Griz are on the road for two league games against two teams they did not play this season, beginning with UC Davis on Oct. 12 and then Sacramento State on Nov. 2.
The final regular-season contest is against Montana State on Nov. 23 in Bozeman. It will be the 113th all-time meeting between the rival schools.
The two non-league road games are at North Dakota (Sept. 14) and at South Dakota (Nov. 9).
UM's game at North Dakota is a return game for a home-and-home contract the teams scheduled before UND joined the Big Sky, so it will not be a conference game. North Dakota played at Montana in 2010.
