MISSOULA -- The Montana men’s tennis team will play Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Grizzlies (13-11) will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to face the No. 2-seeded Sooners (23-3) the second week of May. Montana advanced to the 64-team tournament with a 4-0 victory over Weber State on Sunday to win its first Big Sky Conference championship.

“It’s going to be a very exciting match for our kids to play,” UM coach Chris Nord said. “It’s new territory for us, but we’re excited, and we’ll go see if we can hang with them.”

The match will follow the same regular-season dual format, with the winner of best-of-three doubles matches earning one total point, and six singles matches each worth one point.

“It’s a challenge to go out there and not try to play out of your normal routine,” Nord said. “We just need to go out there and do what we’ve been doing. I just want us to be ourselves and compete like we’ve been competing.”
