MISSOULA — Bobby Hauck is almost finished piecing together his 2018 Montana football coaching staff.
The UM sports information department announced Friday that former Sacramento State cornerbacks coach C.J. Cox is now a Grizzly assistant.
"C.J. is a terrific young football coach," Hauck said in a news release. "I've known him since the mid-point of his college career and got a chance to be his boss as a graduate assistant and personnel coach.
"He is a quality person and his experience in Texas, Nevada and in Sacramento will help us with recruiting and game planning down the road."
Cox may be a new face to Montana. But he's not a new face to several members of the coaching staff. He played at UNLV while Hauck helmed the Rebels.
"I consider Coach Hauck as one of my mentors and I have tremendous respect for him," Cox said in a news release. "It is good to be back working with him because I know what I am getting myself into. I know he is a good coach and an even better person."
Not only was he coached by Hauck, he spent time alongside Chad Germer, Montana offensive line coach and former UNLV offensive line coach.
Cox also spent three years as a graduate assistant at UNLV as well, working with Timm Rosenbach, Montana offensive coordinator and former UNLV offensive coordinator.
"I know those coaches like the back of my hand," Cox said in a news release. "It is awesome to be back with them."
Since his days as a grad assistant, Cox has two years of coaching under his belt. He was the recruiting coordinator and director of player personnel at UNLV in 2016 and Sacramento State's cornerbacks coach in 2017.
Cox is the ninth assistant to be formally announced by Montana. He joins Rosenbach, running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Justin Green, Germer, defensive line coach Barry Sacks, safeties coach Shann Schillinger, strength and conditioning coach Matt Nicholson, director of football operations Colin Bonnicksen and director of football video Lennard Manke.
