BOZEMAN — The Montana women's tennis team picked up its first dual win of 2018 on Friday, steamrolling to a 6-1 triumph over Montana State at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
After claiming the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, the Grizzlies (1-3) took five of six singles matches. Three of the singles wins came in thrilling fashion.
At the No. 1 singles spot, freshman Julia Ronney of San Diego picked up her first college win, outlasting Montana State's Laura Mary, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5. At No. 2 singles, Montana senior Cam Kincaid showed her endurance with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2 win over Angelina Philippova.
Other singles winners for Montana included No. 4 Catherine Orfanos, No. 5 Bianca Bostrom and No. 6 Eimear Maher. Bostrom won a thriller over Enni Zander, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Kincaid and Bostrom won a close set against Mary and Annie Walker, 7-5. At No. 2, Ronney and Nathalie Joanlanne of Montana blanked Philippova and Emma Podeur, 6-0.
