HELENA — Four starters scored in double figures as No. 18 Rocky Mountain College defeated No. 10 Carroll College 58-50 Saturday in Frontier Conference women's basketball.
The Battlin' Bears (17-3, 7-3) return to the Fortin Center for a four-game homestand starting with Montana State-Northern on Thursday. Rocky hosts Providence on Saturday. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Markaela Francis led the Battlin' Bears with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs. Alecia Chamberlin had 14 points, Hailee Farstveet 13 and Brooke Jones 10. Only five Rocky players scored, with Justyn Juhl adding five.
"Markaela had a real nice game," said Rocky coach Wes Keller. "We really defended well after the first quarter."
Trailing 27-24 at halftime, the Battlin' Bears used a 12-2 run in the third quarter to take the lead for good. They outscored the Saints 34-23 in the second half.
Carroll pulled within 52-50 in the fourth quarter, but Francis made four free throws in the final 56 seconds and Farstveet added two more.
The Rocky defense limited Carroll to 34 percent shooting from the field, including 6 of 25 from 3-point range.
Hannah Dean had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Saints, while Jaidyn Lyman had nine points.
