BUTTE -- Trevor Hopf and Jalen Whitley of Billings Skyview have signed letters of intent to join the football program at Montana Tech, Oredigger coach Chuck Morrell has announced.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Whitley and the 6-4, 245-pound Hopf played on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Falcons.

"Coming out of Coach (Ron) Lebsock's program, you know that they have been very well coached and understand how to get after it up front," Morrell said.

Whitley was an all-conference selection as a tackle on both sides of the ball last year. Hopf was first-team all-state at guard last year and second-team all-state at defensive end.

“Skyview had some of the best all-around line play in the state this past season in Class AA football," Morrell said. "They ask their line to do a lot of pulling and run blocking on offense and stunting on defense, which gave us a great opportunity to evaluate them as far as transitioning to the college game.”

The Falcons led the Class AA in rushing last season, averaging 294.6 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry.

Hopf and Whitley also helped lead a defensive front that ranked third in the state, giving up only 131.2 yards a game on the ground.

“Jalen and Trevor were both priority targets for us during the recruiting process as we looked to develop our line of scrimmage play,” said Morrell. “They bring size and athletic ability as well as the right aggressive demeanor that will be well suited in the Frontier Conference.”

Whitley plans to pursue a degree in business at Tech, while Hopf plans on majoring in petroleum engineering.
