SPEARFISH, S.D. -- Rocky Mountain College's Shawn Peden and Fred Petsch finished 1-2 in the 1,000 meters on Saturday at Black Hills State's Dave Little Alumni Mile indoor track meet at the Don Young Center.

Peden, a sophomore, won with a clocking of 2:37.49, with Petsch, a freshman, taking second at 2:38.77.

Both are former Billings West athletes.

Peden also placed sixth in the mile at 4:27.43.

He is now sitting 21st nationally in the 1,000 meters, 17th in the mile and 19th in the 800 meters -- and is just outside the national NAIA qualifying standard in all three races.

On Saturday, Rocky's Colton Wood was sixth in the 800 meters (2:04.6) and Johnny Barnes, also from RMC, was eighth in the 600 meters (1:29.00).

In the women's mile, Rocky's Ana Richter was fifth at 5:29.25 and teammate Jessica Raymond was sixth at 5:30.95.

The Battlin' Bears will be competing at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho, next weekend.
