LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The 2012 women's volleyball team at Rocky Mountain College was one of 46 NAIA teams nationally to receive a team academic award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

This is the sixth straight year under the direction of coach Laurie Kelly that the Battlin' Bears earned this recognition.

The AVCA accolade, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

“We pride ourselves on the success of our program, and the fact we have scholar athletes,” Kelly said. "This past season the team collected a 3.51 GPA in the classroom, which exceeds all previous years for our teams."

The members of Rocky's winning academic team included: Esther Timofeyev, Bethany Moulett, Jamie Elenbaas, Michaela Hale, Jayde Hair, Ahlea Billis, Jennifer Donaldson, Tori Bertsch, Elli Hellerud, Mariah Stiffarm, Sky Gabel, Anna Dewald, Brooke Myers, BrieAnna Geck and Kacie Stone.
