LEWISTON, Idaho -- The men's and women's golf teams at Rocky Mountain College are Frontier Conference champions.
The Battlin' Bear women, ranked 11th nationally, placed second on a blustery Tuesday at the final regular-season meet at Lewiston Country Club behind host and No. 14-ranked Lewis-Clark State, 657-663, but wound up beating L-C State by 17 strokes after the three regular-season tournaments.
On the men's side, Rocky, with a 927 score, placed third Tuesday behind non-league participant Spokane Community College (889) and L-C State (899). However, the Bears finished 23 strokes ahead of L-C State for the conference title.
L-C State captured both titles last year.
On Tuesday, Rocky's Kyla Clancy topped the field of 41 women to claim medalist honors with her 36-hole total of 9-over 153 (77-76). She won by one stroke over L-C State's Heather Bruce.
Teammate Katy Peterson tied for fifth at 164 (76-88).
Spokane CC's Even Omelia was the men's medalist at 2-under 214 (74-70-70). Rocky's Daniel Thompsett tied for fifth out of 56 players at 9-over 225 (73-76-76).
Rocky's Thompsett and L-C State's Bruce are in line to receive the conference's golfer of the year crowns based on their regular-season performances.
The conference championships will be played April 28-29 at Larchmont Golf Course in Missoula. The winning teams will receive automatic berths to nationals.
