LINCOLN, Neb. -- The women's golf team from Rocky Mountain College missed the cut Thursday at the 27-team NAIA championships being played at Wilderness Ridge.

The Battlin' Bears wound up with a 54-hole total of 1,025, which placed them outside the cut line of 989.

Seventeen teams moved on to Friday's closing round, with top-ranked SCAD of Savannah, Ga., and defending champion Oklahoma City tied for the lead at 914.

Lewis-Clark State of the Frontier Conference survived the cut and is sitting 15th at 976.

Rocky sophomore Kyla Clancy, who is in a three-way tie for 18th place individually, will also keep playing on Friday. She is at 15-over 231 after three rounds, 11 strokes out of the lead.

Clancy shot a 78 on Thursday. The top 40 individuals and ties earned the right to play the final 18 holes.

Rocky senior Katy Peterson , who shot 77s on Wednesday and Thursday, was later disqualified on Thursday for using an illegal wedge and all of her tournament scores were voided.

Several other golfers at nationals also fell victim to the USGA's new groove rule, Rocky coach Aaron Pohle said.

He said he had checked all of the clubs of his players prior to nationals and believed they conformed to the new standards.

"It was a mistake on my part," he said. "I missed something in the language. It was unfortunate. It was a pretty rough way to end the season for the team and Katy."

Besides Clancy's 78, the Bears' other third-round scores included Margo Salsbery 84, Mckenzie Webinger 86 and Allie Sauvageau 91.
