HELENA -- Junior guard Tyree Anderson scored 23 points on Thursday night and No. 16-ranked Rocky Mountain College remained on top of the Frontier Conference standings with a 71-61 win over Carroll College in men's basketball.

Joel Barndt added 17 points and Jeremy Nicolas 10 as the Battlin' Bears took over sole possession of the league lead at 8-3. Rocky is 17-6 overall, with a four-game winning streak.

Rocky's Matt Strickland snapped a 47-47 tie with a 3-pointer with 9:16 to play. The Bears never trailed after that in building as much as a 12-point advantage.

"Down the stretch we made plays, and that's what you have to do," Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen said. "I'm proud of the kids for doing that on the road."

The Saints, 2-9 and 7-16, received 20 points from Zach Taylor, 12 from Dennis Mikelonis and 11 from Chris McGrath. Mikelonis had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The Bears, who shot 46 percent from the field, committed just eight turnovers and outrebounded the Saints 36-25.

Dreikosen said his Bears maintained their focus on defense and also came up with some key offensive rebounds and baskets down the stretch.

Anderson shot 8 of 12 from the field and made 6 of 7 free throws.

Nicolas grabbed nine rebounds and Barndt eight.

Rocky will be playing at No. 25-ranked Montana Western on Friday night in what is being billed as the NAIA's game of the week.
