DILLON -- Rocky Mountain College opened its men's basketball season Friday afternoon with a 76-52 victory over Walla Walla (Wash.) University at the Craig Finberg Memorial Tournament hosted by Montana Western.
The Battlin' Bears were led by the 22 points of Malachi Roberts and the 13 of Joel Barndt. Rocky knocked down 10 3-pointers and also came away with 16 steals and 20 assists.
Point guard Doundrekyc (Dun-Dun) Parham finished with eight points, 11 assists and five steals for the Bears. Roberts nailed five 3-pointers, while Barndt snagged seven rebounds.
"I thought we shared the ball well and got a lot of different people involved," Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen said. "Our kids did a good job of playing hard.
"The biggest thing is we were able to build a lead (39-24 at halftime) and extend it from there -- and that's important. You never want to have a letdown."
Walla Walla University received 12 points from Tristan Greenidge and 11 from Miguel Martinez.
The Bears will be back on the court Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against the College of Idaho, which lost to host Montana Western 72-52 on Friday night.
