LAUREL -- The 3,200-meter men's relay team at Rocky Mountain College has qualified for next month's NAIA championships.
The Battlin' Bears' foursome of Fred Petsch, Johnny Barnes, Colton Wood and Shawn Peden ran a 7:45.21 in finishing second to Dickinson State during a meet on Thursday afternoon at the LHS Sports Complex.
DSU won the race at 7:40.31.
Rocky's time is a new school record, according to coach Alan King, and ranks the Bears seventh in the NAIA.
The Jackets' AJ Montanez came in second in the shot put with a distance of 15.73 meters, which hit the automatic qualifying mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and was the second best throw in the conference this season. Montanez also came in third in the men’s discus with a throw of 44.29 meters which is a provisional qualifying mark in the GNAC, and has him ranked at No. 7 in the conference.
MSUB went first and second in the women’s 800 as Nocona Frame won the event with a time of 2:19.51, while her sister Rio Frame finished in second with a time of 2:27.84.
