Middle hitter Sydney Matheny, who was Wyoming's 2013 Gatorade volleyball player of the year, has signed a letter of intent to play for Rocky Mountain College in the fall.
The 5-foot-11 Matheny, who is from Gillette, Wyo., led her Campbell County High School team to a 29-4 record last season and a state runner-up finish at the 4A tournament.
She was an all-state selection, as well as garnering player of the year accolades at the conference and state levels.
“Sydney is a phenomenal athlete that positively represents her community, school, and state in volleyball," Rocky coach Laurie Kelly said. "I have had the opportunity to see Sydney at the Rocky Volleyball Camp the past two summers and admire her as a player.
"She is very talented and will be a great addition to our nationally ranked program that returns the whole roster. Her success in high school volleyball coupled with her honors in academics makes a good fit for our program. We are so excited to sign one of Wyoming’s best and look forward to the contribution she will make at Rocky Mountain College.”
Matheny, who was a three-year starter for Campbell County, is the daughter of Scott and Lori Matheny, who are both graduates of Rocky.
