FORT WORTH, Texas -- Rocky Mountain College dropped a pair of volleyball matches to nationally ranked teams Saturday at the Texas Wesleyan Hughes Classic tournament.

The Battlin' Bears are now 8-2 on the season after falling to No. 10 Embry-Riddle, Fla., 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-19 and No. 3 University of Texas-Brownsville 25-20, 25-19, 25-10.

"Our serve receive broke down and we struggled to get our offense going because of the passing," Rocky coach Laurie Kelly said.

Rocky middle blocker Yang Yang, who suffered an ankle injury on Friday, didn't play, but did a little serving, Kelly said.

Anna Dewald collected 13 kills and 3.5 blocks against Embry-Riddle. Ahlea Billis had eight kills against Brownsville. Sky Gabel provided 13 assists and 12 digs.

"This was good for us at this time of the season so we know what we need to work on," Kelly said of playing the top-ranked opponents.

Rocky will open Frontier Conference play at Dickinson State next Saturday.
