Devin Uskoski, who led Rocky Mountain College to the NAIA championship in 2009, has signed a one-year contact with one of the top professional basketball teams in Japan.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Uskoski, from Brush Prairie, Wash., will be joining the Toyota Alvark team of Tokyo. Alvark, sponsored by Toyota, plays in the 12-team National Basketball League, where it captured the 2012 championship.
Uskoski, 27, is headed to Japan after playing for four seasons in Germany. He averaged 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game with Mitteldeutscher BC last season.
"I'm very excited about it," Uskoski said about heading to Japan. "It's a whole new culture, completely different than Europe."
He will leave for Japan this weekend, and the Alvark team will begin regular-season play at the end of September.
"There's a lot of great players there," Uskoski said. "It will be a good challenge for me."
Uskoski is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Rocky. He was the MVP of the 2009 NAIA championship tournament.
