GREAT FALLS — University of Providence redshirt sophomore wrestler Randy Keesler won the 184-pound bracket at the Heritage Inn Open on Saturday.
Keesler, a Great Falls High graduate, defeated teammate Tyler Webley 8-5 for the title. Keesler is tied for ninth in the nation at 174 pounds in the NAIA rankings. Keesler was 4-0 at the Heritage Open and he went 3-1 in the Battle of the Rockies Duals on Friday, including a win over a top-five ranked NCAA DII wrestler.
For is efforts, Keesler was named the Red Lion Cascade Collegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week on Monday.
Providence's Tatum Sparks finished first in her division and Kaylynn Hixenbaugh was second in her bracket as the No. 18 UP women hosted the first home women's tourney in school history. The Heritage Inn Open was a small tourney on the women's side, with only six weight classes with anywhere from three to five competing wrestlers. The women's wrestlers competed in a round-robin rather than a a traditional bracket format.
