FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Former Montana State player Bobby Howard is joining another former Bobcat at Alaska Fairbanks.

Howard, of Great Falls, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Nanooks men's basketball team. The head coach at UAF is Mick Durham, another former MSU standout and former MSU head coach.

UAF is an NCAA Division II program in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference that includes Montana State Billings.

Howard, a 2011 graduate of MSU, spent the last two seasons as an assistant for Montana Western (2013-14) and Minot State (2012-13). Prior to coaching, Howard had a short stint playing for CSU Sibiu, a professional basketball team in Romania.

An all-state player for Great Falls High, Howard finished his MSU career as the 11th-leading scorer in program history with 1,366 points. He also ranks sixth all-time for career 3-pointers with 160.

Alaska Fairbanks was 18-10 overall and 12-6 in league play. The Nanooks reached the semifinals of the GNAC tournament.
