The Montana State Billings softball team begins an important six-game home stand this week with doubleheaders against Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene.
The Yellowjackets (4-12, 3-6) plays the Wildcats (6-9, 4-4) on Thursday and the Crusaders (5-20, 0-10) on Saturday. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
At both games the MSUB Student Athletic Advisory Committee will be collecting canned goods as part of its Athletes Against Hunger campaign.
MSUB is trying to stop a five-game losing streak and get back in the top four of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings. Currently fifth, the Yellowjackets earned the right to host the inaugural conference tournament in May after winning the GNAC title last year. The top four teams qualify.
The Yellowjackets are batting a collective .245. Aubrey Conceicao is hitting .310 and leads the team in hits and shares the team lead for RBIs. MSUB has been out-scored 24-1 in its last five games.
CWU leads the GNAC in batting average (.327), slugging percentage (.468) and on-base percentage (.374). The Wildcats have 28 extra-base hits, including 14 home runs. Michaela Hazlett is batting .419 for CWU, while JIll McDaniels has 19 RBIs and six home runs.
NNU has lost 14 straight. MSUB has beaten the Crusaders in the last 11 meetings.
