PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Montana State Billings volleyball team was picked to finish eighth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coach's poll.

The Yellowjackets return five starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team that finished 7-20 overall and 4-14 in the GNAC.

MSUB is led by senior hitter Monica Grimsrud, a first-team all-GNAC selection last year. Grimsrud accounted for almost 30 percent of the Yellowjackets kills (359 of 1,203) and also had 163 digs and 55 blocks. Grimsrud, of Montana City, ranks sixth for career kills (1,079).

Junior Kyndal Williams ranks third all-time for career assists with 1,954. Senior Chelsey Walter averaged 2.76 kills per set to rank 13th in the GNAC and had a team-high 80 blocks.

Two-time defending champion Western Washington was the top pick among the league's coaches. The Vikings were 23-4 overall and 16-2 in the GNAC in 2013. WWU is chasing its eight title in 14 seasons.
