ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The win was worth the wait.

The Montana State Billings women’s basketball team had to wait as the officials discussed the final foul call in the closing seconds of the game before earning a 75-73 win over Central Washington in the first round of the GNAC Tournament for women’s basketball Thursday night.

The Yellowjackets (20-11) will play No. 1 seed Northwest Nazarene (22-3) in one semifinal on Friday at 7:15 p.m. The Crusaders won both meetings with MSUB during the regular season.

The winner of the GNAC Tournament earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

MSUB’s Alisha Breen posted her 15th double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The GNAC Player of the Year had 18 points by halftime.

Rylee Kane added 25 points for the Yellowjackets. Kane was 7 of 12 from the field and 9 of 11 from the free throw line.

Kane’s 3-point play gave MSUB the lead for good, 69-66, and teammate Hannah Collins followed with a steal and a basket after the Wildcats had tied the game.

The Wildcats missed a game-tying layup with seven seconds remaining. MSUB turned the ball over with 6.4 seconds left but Lexi Prevost was fouled with 1.3 seconds to play. The officials checked the video before making the final call.

Taylor Baird led CWU with 18 points.
