Jared Winslow of Libby, along with two players from Idaho and two players from Canada are part of the 2014 recruiting class for the Montana State Billings baseball program.

Also joining the Yellowjackets are Jacob Foley and Landon Peterson of Boise, Idaho, along with Joel Mazurkewich of Red Deer, Alberta and Wyatt Schlosser of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Winslow had an ERA of .59 and struck out 132 for the Class A American Legion Libby Loggers last year. He was 30-7 in three seasons, including 10-1 last summer which included a 17-strike out game against Kootenai Valley. In 2012, he tossed a five-inning perfect game. Winslow helped his team to three straight third-place finishes at the Class A American Legion State Tournament.

“Jared has been one of the top arms in Montana for several years and we are looking forward to him bringing that experience to our program,” said MSUB coach Rob Bishop. “He is a three-sport guy (football, basketball, baseball) who has a ton of competitive experience on the basketball court and as a high school quarterback. Jared will do good things as a Yellowjacket.”

Foley and Anderson are both from Capital High School in Boise.

In 2013, Foley was selected as one of the “Top 40 Baseball Players in Idaho.” Last season, he hit .415 with three home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.

“Jacob is a terrific athlete who can play all over the field,” Bishop said. “He plays multiple positions at a high level in high school. We think he can be an impact guy on the field.”

Peterson was a 5A SIC all-conference selection as a catcher and named the team MVP for Capital. This spring, he hit .328. Peterson also helped his Legion team to a third-place finish at the state tournament.

“Landon is a very good defender behind the plate who already does a lot of things very well as a catcher,” said Bishop. “We feel that he will be a great addition to our program with all the intangibles that he brings on and off the field.”

Mazurkewich, of Vauxhall High School, was a member of Team Alberta which won a gold medal at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2011 and bronze in 2013. As a junior, he hit .404 with 38 hits and 25 RBIs.

“Joel is a true centerfielder who plays the game fast,” Bishop said. “He is scrappy at the plate and is a guy that we would like to see at the top of the order when he is ready. Adding him to our program will definitely improve our overall team speed on the bases and defensively.”

Schlosser is also from Vauxhall High School and plays for the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball. He hit .371 last year with 16 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

“Wyatt is very physical for an incoming freshman and his experience at the Vauxhall Baseball Academy will definitely have him coming into our program prepared for the day to day grind of college baseball,” Bishop said. “He has an athletic frame and a strong swing from the left side.”
