LARAMIE, Wyo. -- University of Wyoming basketball legend Kenny Sailors will be featured in a new Wyoming PBS television documentary titled “Leap of Faith” that will premiere on Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.ml on Wyoming PBS. The documentary will also air again at 8:30 p.m. that same night.

The documentary, produced by Wyoming PBS’ Geoff O’Gara, will feature interviews with Sailors and many others, and will relive the Wyoming native’s accomplishments, including his days leading the Cowboys to the 1943 NCAA National Championship through his induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in November of 2012. Sailors, who was born Jan. 14, 1921, recently turned 92 years old and still attends Cowboy and Cowgirl games.

Wyoming PBS is telecast over a number of cable and satellite providers within the state of Wyoming. To locate the Wyoming PBS channel in your area follow this link: http://wyomingpbs.org/channels/

Sailors is the individual in basketball history credited with developing the modern-day jump shot. He was selected as the 1943 National Player of the Year, and is the oldest living Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament.

This season, in connection with the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, Sailors was selected by the NCAA as one of its “75 All-Time March Madness Players”.

On Nov. 18, 2012, Sailors was one of 10 individuals inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2012 -- a class that also included Patrick Ewing, Phil Ford, Earl Monroe, Willis Reed and Joe B. Hall.

Sailors and his former head coach, Everett Shelton, are the only two representatives from the state of Wyoming in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Shelton was inducted in the inaugural class of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

After teaming with Shelton to lead Wyoming to the NCAA Championship in 1943, Sailors enlisted in the Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After being away from the game he loved for two years, Sailors returned to Wyoming for the 1945-46 season and once again earned All-America honors.
