HOYLAKE, England -- Former University of Wyoming golfer David Hearn completed an impressive weekend at his first British Open on Sunday by firing a final-round 71 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Hearn finished tied for 32nd with a four-round total of three-under 285.
During final round of play at Hoylake, Hearn recorded five birdies for what became the second-best finish at a Major Championship of his career. He finished tied for 21st at the 2013 U.S. Open.
Rory McIlroy won this year's British Open with a score of 17-under 271, with Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler tied for second two shots back.
On the final nine holes, Hearn shot a 36 and birdied two of the last three holes to finish his first Open Championship.
Hearn, a 2001 first team All-Mountain West selection, has recorded three top-10 finishes during the 2014 season. He will next play in the RBC Canadian Open that begins on Thursday.
