A Class C state sprint champion and a junior college All-American are among six new signees for the Montana State Billings track and field program.
Joining the Yellowjackets are: Brianna Gray, Park City, sprints; Brielle Davis, Billings, distance; Mark Hovland, Billings, distance; Brandi Risa, Billings, pole vault; Bailey Bomar, Billings, distance; Jorey Egeland, distance.
Hovland, Risa and Bomar are all graduates of Billings West. Egeland is a graduate of Billings Senior and Davis is a Billings Skyview graduate.
Gray won the Class C 100 and 200 meters in 2013 and won the 200 meters this past spring.
Davis earned All-American honors for Gillette College in Wyoming. This year, she placed eighth in the mile and was a member of the Pronghorns' 3,200 relay that placed third at the national indoor championships. At the outdoor national meet, she was eighth in the steeplechase and the 3,200 relay placed third again.
"Local distance runners Mark Hovland, Jorey Egeland, Brielle Davis and Bailey Bomar will bring some depth to our men's and women's cross country teams as well as the long distances and middle distance events in track," said MSUB coach Dave Coppock. "They all come from very good high school distance programs and in Brielle's case, she was a junior college All-American at Gillette College.
"Both Brianna Gray and Brandi Risa will give us much-needed depth in the women's sprints and jumps. Brianna will be a big help in the short and long sprints as well as the relays. Brandi is an accomplished vaulter who we feel should really be competitive in the GNAC right away."
"All of the athletes have gained a lot of good training and racing experience and have competed at a high level at their previous schools. It's great to get so many local high school runners to join our program and we're excited to take them to the next level."
