EUGENE, ORE. – Notre Dame’s Alexa Aragon, a Billings Senior graduate, earned All-America status by finishing in eighth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.
Aragon finished in 9:54.27, just under 20 seconds behind winner Leah O’Connor of Michigan State. Aragon shave nearly five seconds off her Wednesday preliminary time.
Aragon also had an eighth-place finish last year as a junior. She ran 9:57.26 then.
Elsewhere, Montana’s Lindsey Hall, a Missoula Big Sky product, placed seventh in the heptathlon with 5,603 points for All-America honors. Montana State’s Carley McCutchen finished 20th with 5,027 points.
In her last race of the year, McCutchen, of Buckley, Wash., ran a 2:25.55 in the 800, good enough for 17th place. After all was said and done, her 5,027 total points over seven events helped mark the best ranking of her outdoor career.
