CHICAGO — Jason Holmes of Bozeman has been named the 2013-14 Gatorade Montana Athlete of the Year for boys cross country.

Holmes, a senior, won the State AA boys race last fall in a time of 15:13.35, helping the Hawks to the AA boys team title.

He also finished 13th at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional championships, clocking Montana’s fastest time in the 5K event at 16:03.40.

“Jason’s desire to be recognized as an individual state champion has been easily recognizable for the past two years,” said Bozeman coach Clint May. “This goal has driven his work ethic and mindset. His gritty determination is a thing of beauty. He has been a joy to coach.”

Zach Perrin of Kalispell Flathead won the award last year.
