WALNUT, Calif. -- Troy Fraley of Kalispell Glacier finished second Saturday in the boys race at the 34th Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional competition.
Fraley, a senior, covered the five-kilometer distance (3.1 miles) in 15 minutes, 37 seconds. Benjamin Saarel of Salt Lake City was first at 15:28.
Senior Zachary Perrin of Kalispell Flathead, who led at the one- and two-mile marks, wound up eighth at 15:47.
In the girls race, Marissa Williams of Los Angeles bolted into the lead and never relinquished it in winning with a clocking of 17:46.
Makena Morley, a sophomore from Bigfork High School, was third at 18:17, with senior Paige Gilchrist of Missoula Hellgate coming in fourth at 18:19.
The races were held on a muddy course at Mount San Antonio College.
The top 10 boys and girls qualified to compete against runners from the Northeast, South and Midwest Regional meets at the national finals Dec. 8 at Balboa Park in San Diego.
