FAIRMONT -- Columbus’ Phillip Holten shot an opening-round 71 on Tuesday and leads the pack after Day 1 of the Class B state golf tournament at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

Holten has a one-stroke lead over teammate Jackson Klee heading into the final round. Sadie Crippen of Missoula Loyola and Bailee Dexter of Townsend lead the girls field after both shot opening-round 82s. Huntley Project’s Hanna Walter is in third at 83.

Loyola’s boys, in search of their fourth straight team title, are tied with Columbus atop standings at 314. Project is in third at 328.

Townsend leads the girls standings at 372. Loyola (395), followed by Forsyth and Three Forks (both at 409) round out the top three.

The tournament concludes Wednesday.
