SEELEY LAKE -- Chad Johnerson of Ennis and Tehya Braun of Lone Peak were in the lead after the first round of the State C golf tournament Tuesday at the Double Arrow Lodge Golf Course.

Johnerson shot an opening-round 72 to grab a two-stroke lead over Micah Nicholas of Seeley-Swan. Defending champion Tate Tatom of Lone Peak is also two shots back.

Seeley-Swan, with a total of 245, leads the boys team standings, two shots ahead of defending champ Lone Peak. Chinook and Ennis are both three shots back.

Braun’s first-round 93 is one shot better than defending girls champion Josie Stinson of Belt. Valier’s Krisha McKinley, Belt’s Johanna Stinson and Harlowton’s Mackenzie Wasson are each three strokes off the lead.

Belt, at 304, owns a comfortable lead in the girls standings.

The final round will be held Wednesday.
