Billings Senior’s Sean Benson holds a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Billings Invitational golf tournament Monday at The Briarwood.

Benson carded a first-round 74, one stroke better than Easton Enott of Great Falls CMR. Billings West freshman Joey Moore is in third place after shooting 76. Skyview’s Payton Stott and Bozeman’s Tyson Odden are tied for fourth, three shots off the lead.

There is a three-way tie atop the girls standings as West’s Hannah Zwemke, Senior’s Kortney McNeil and Butte’s Shaelyn Hafer each shot 81. McNeil won the State AA championship two years ago and placed second last season.

Team-wise, reigning AA champ West and Bozeman are tied for the boys lead, each with 318. Senior is two shots back at 320, while Great Falls is four off the pace at 322. The Broncs lead the girls standings by three strokes after shooting a collective 370. West, the defending AA girls titlist, is in second place at 373.

The tournament’s final round is Tuesday at Eaglerock.
