GREAT FALLS -- Kassi Soelter scattered seven hits and Bekah Ellis and Alicia Stoner hit solo home runs as Billings Skyview opened Eastern AA play with a 6-5 win over defending champion Great Falls on Thursday.

The Bison rebounded for a 15-4 win in the second game, which was also a conference counter.

Tyler Fleury and Kris Rickhoff each had two hits in the opener to help back Soelter, who struck out six and improved to 3-1.

"Soelter did a tremendous job on the mound against a strong-hitting team," said coach Sarah DeVore, who also noted Soelter was aided by a defensive gem by Baylee Hrubes. "She had great results with her pitches."

The Falcons weren't so fortunate in the second game, where the Bison (1-1, 2-2) got a five-RBI game from Mercedes Bourgeau.

Tyler Fleury, Erika Hall and Morgan Webster drove in runs for the Falcons (1-1, 4-3).

"Great Falls is a tough team and coming in here on the conference opener and splitting is still great," DeVore said. "I am very proud of how strong the team stayed."
