BOZEMAN — This time last year, Billings West's Maddie Brockel was recovering from a torn ACL she suffered during soccer season.

On Thursday afternoon, the senior signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field for Montana State.

Brockel recovered from her torn ACL quickly last year, needing only six months before returning in time for track season. She won the 200-meter dash, the 400 and was also a part of West's 400-relay, which broke the all-class record at state. She finished in second place in the 100.

Brockel has won the 200 three years in a row while also winning the 100 in her freshman and sophomore seasons. As a sophomore, Brockel was a leg on both of West's relays as the team went on to be the 2016 state champions.
