Dalton Daum of Butte has been selected as Montana’s Gatorade boys track and field athlete of the year.
Daum, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound junior, won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Class AA state track and field meet in Great Falls. He is the first Butte athlete to win the boys track and field honor, which recognizes athletic excellence, as well as high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track.
“Dalton Daum is truly a gifted track and field athlete,” said Butte coach Arie Grey. “He has proven that he is a very smooth and explosive sprinter.”
Butte’s Erika McLeod won the girls track and field award earlier in the week.
