Longtime Malta coach and administrator Glenn Flatt died Thursday in Butte.
According to the Great Falls Tribune, Flatt, 81, taught in Malta from 1959-95 and served as the school’s athletic director from 1987-2005.
He coached football, wrestling and track and field for the Mustangs and was a member of the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He gave up his football coaching duties in 1989, when current Malta athletic director Scott King became coach and continued the Mustangs’ strong tradition until his own coaching retirement following the 2012 season.
“(Flatt) was a great, great mentor,” King told the Tribune. “I just can’t imagine being around Malta athletics without Glenn. We’ll move on, but it won’t be the same.”
