HAVRE — One of the most storied coaching careers in the history of Montana wrestling is reportedly coming to a close on Tuesday.
According to the Havre Daily News, Havre head wrestling coach Scott Filius will retire as the Blue Ponies' coach. Filius, a 1986 Billings Senior graduate, has coached Havre for 23 years, 12 of which ended with a state championship trophy.
Heading into last week's All-Class State Wrestling Tournament, the Blue Ponies were on a five-year streak as the Class A state champions. They were dethroned on Saturday, as the Sidney Eagles took the team title while Havre finished in second.
Filius coached numerous individual champions, including his son Parker Filius and Jace Stokes, both of whom were crowned four-time champions at last year's state tournament. The final individual champions for Filius were Martin Wilkie (145) and Tyler Schaub (205) who both became state champions on Saturday.
