Three-time state placer Koby Reyes of Billings West signed a national letter of intent to wrestle with Arizona State University Tuesday.
Reyes was the State AA runner-up at 145 pounds this season. He is projected to wrestle at 141 for the Sun Devils.
"I am very thankful for the opportunity," Reyes said. "It's good. I don't have any pressure. Nobody has high expectations. I get to be the underdog and work my tail off every day and prove myself."
Reyes also played soccer for West and was a two-time all-conference selection. He was interested in playing soccer at college, but changed his mind after his showing at the state wrestling tourney.
"I always loved soccer and then I got this opportunity," he said. "Taking second at state fueled my fire to keep wrestling. My heart is still on the mat."
Tyrel Todd of Bozeman is an assistant coach at ASU whom Reyes has known for a long time. Reyes also is happy to wrestle for new Sun Devils head coach Zeke Jones, the former USA Wrestling national freestyle coach, and assistant Lee Pritts.
