Matt Welch of Billings Skyview won the Blewett Wrestling Scholarship for Class AA.

The winners of the scholarships, awarded for the eighth year in a row to the top student-wrestler in each of Classes AA, A and B-C, were announced Wednesday. Each scholarship is $1,000 and is made available by Alexander Blewett III, a trial lawyer from the personal injury law firm of Hoyt and Blewett PLLC in Great Falls.

Welch won the State AA title at 220 this past season, going 26-4. He carries a 3.74 GPA and will attend Montana State University, where he will study computer engineering.

The winner in Class A was Cody Lemons of Frenchtown. He is a four-time state placer. Lemons has a 3.6 GPA and will go to school at Montana Tech and study petroleum engineering. Lemons was third at 145 pounds at state this season.

Jacen Petersen of St. Ignatius-Charlo, who captured the 170 pound B-C state title this year and the 171-pound title last year, is the Class B-C winner. Petersen has received an academic and wrestling scholarship to Arizona State. He was state runner-up at 160 in 2012. As a freshman, he was fourth at 152.
