Billings native Jacob Doty has accepted a tryout invitation from the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.
Doty, 18, currently plays right wing for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the major junior Western Hockey League.
Last season, Doty made the jump from the Tier III Junior A NorPac league to the WHL, where he played 70 games as a rookie. He had 4 goals, 3 assists, 176 penalty minutes and ranked second in the league with 25 fighting majors.
The 6-foot-3, 207-pound Doty has spent this summer training in the Minneapolis area, focusing on strength work and power skating. He will participate at a development camp in Kent, Wash., next week.
Doty grew up playing in the Billings Amateur Hockey League.
