SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The 12 Billings baseball players who make up the Big Sky All-Stars are unique. They’re the only players in Montana baseball history to win the Northwest Regional Tournament and make it to the Little League World Series.

Both at the regional tournament in San Bernardino and in South Williamsport for the World Series, they’ve had some pretty amazing moments.

They’ve played in front of thousands of people. They’ve won a World Series game. And they’ve done interviews with ESPN.

“We all did, like, the picture thing where you say your name and your favorite player and stuff,” said left fielder, catcher and pitcher Ben Askelson.

Andy Maehl, who’s a fan of the cable sports network, said that was a pretty special moment for him.

“That was really cool because I’ve always dreamed about (doing) that,” said Andy, who plays left field and catcher on the team.

Because the boys have been busy playing baseball, they haven’t gotten to see themselves on TV, Ben added.

“We can’t really watch ourselves during the game, so we don’t really know what they’re saying about us,” he said. “So you just kind of have to hear it from your parents and hope you didn’t say anything embarrassing.”

First baseman Pearce Kurth talked about meeting former big-league player and former Billings Mustang Aaron Boone, now a TV baseball analyst.

They have enjoyed meeting and playing ping pong with members of teams from the United States and around the world. But the players that have already made history also remind you that they are normal kids.
