The local auto racing season revs into action Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the season opener at BMP Speedway.
Modifieds, B-Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks races will be held. Track owner/promoter Mike Quigley said there will be around 16 races in the four classes.
Justin Rieker of Billings, Jeremy Meierhofer of Belgrade and Jeremy Castro of Billings are a few of the top drivers competing. Rieker was the year-end champion in Billings and Belgrade last year in Super Stocks Quigley said. Meierhofer was the Modifieds year-end champion at the BMP and was second in Super Stocks. Castro was the Street Stocks champion a year ago in the Magic City.
"We have a really good car count with those four classes. We will probably have somewhere around 60 cars," Quigley said. "The drivers are very supportive. Some of the drivers are from Great Falls and we get some from the Bozeman, Belgrade, Powell and Cody areas."
Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for juniors, seniors and military, children ages 7 to 11 are $3 and children under six are free.
There are 24 race dates on the BMP Speedway schedule. Quigley said a typical race night runs approximately three hours.
"If you get a few crashes, they can go a little longer," he said. "But if you don't get any, they get over quicker. You can't guess that one.
"When we get a lot of cars (100), we can go four hours. Normally, it's a three-hour program."
The BMP Speedway is located at the Billings Motorsports Park, north of town on Highway 87 towards Roundup at mile marker 16.
