WHITEFISH – For the second consecutive summer, Brandon McIver of Billings led wire-to-wire in repeating as Montana State Men's Amateur champion Saturday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club’s North Course.

And just as he did a year ago in leading after every round, McIver won the 97th edition of the tournament by a whopping eight strokes.

The 20-year-old University of Oregon golfer, who qualified for the U.S. Open this year and is headed to the U.S. Amateur next month, carded his third straight round in the 60s in Saturday’s final round.

McIver finished with a 5-under-par 67 to give him a 54-hole total of 204, 12 under par.

Missoula’s Tom Swanson and Ryan Porch of Kalispell tied for second at 212, 4 under. Swanson closed with a 71 and Porch had a 68.

Marcus Drange of Billings shot a 68 in the final round to finish alone in fourth at 213.

It was another three strokes back to Jake Hedge of Billings in fifth at 216. Ross Bartell of Great Falls was sixth at 217 and Kalispell’s Logan Lindholm was seventh at 218.
