GUTHRIE, Okla. -- Dustin Bird of Cut Bank and Polson's John Robertson won the first round of team roping at the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo on Thursday night.
The two posted a time of 4.5 seconds at the Lazy-E Arena to earn $4,525.
Bird, a two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, leads the PRCA world team roping heading standings. Robertson qualified for the Canadian Finals Rodeo a year ago.
The RNCFR features the year-end and finals champions from 12 different circuits around the United States. There will be a another full round of competition with the top eight in the average advancing to the semifinals.
The money won does not count in the world standings.
Jessy Davis of Power tied for fourth in bareback riding with an 80-point ride for $1,303, while saddle bronc rider Josh Reynolds shared fourth place with an 80-point ride for $1,303.
Montana natives Gretchen Benbenek and Lisa Lockhart placed in barrel racing.
Benbenek, a native of Missoula, placed fifth with a time of 17.44 seconds for $960. Living in Aubrey, Texas, Benbenek qualified by winning the Prairie Circuit title.
Lockhart, the Badlands Circuit champion originally from Circle, was sixth in 17.46 for $686.
Other event winners were: Joe Gunderson, bareback; Will Lummus, steer wrestling; Josh Peek, tie-down roping; Cody Wright, saddle bronc; Aaron Pass, bull riding.
