KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Cody Tew missed both his steers last year.
He made sure he caught this year.
Tew and Matt Robertson won the first round of team roping at the National Circuit Finals Rodeo on Friday with a time of 5.7 seconds.
Tew and Robertson each earned $6,254. The money counts in the PRCA world standings.
Dustin Bird and Chase Tryan tied for second in team roping with a time of 5.8 seconds.
Shelly Anzick's time of 15.45 seconds on Thursday night held to win the first round of barrel racing.
The rodeo, which features year-end and Finals champions from 12 circuits in the United States continues with the second round on Saturday. The semifinals and final round on on Sunday.
Other first round winners were: Kyle Irwin, steer wrestling; Sage Kimzey, bull riding; Clayton Biglow, bareback; Seth Hall, tie-down roping; Wade Sundell, saddle bronc.
Kimzey, the three-time world champion, has earned more than $100,000 in 2018.
