FORT WORTH, Texas — J.R. Vezain gave himself an early birthday present, winning the bareback title at the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday night.

Vezain, who turns 26 on Feb. 22, earned $10,818 with 338.5 points on four rides. The five-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier won the first round and clinched the title by winning the final round with an 87.5-point ride.

Vezain lives in Melstone.

Justin Miller of Billings tied for fourth place in bareback riding with 332 points on four rides. Miller pocketed $3,378.

Other winners at Fort Worth were: Tyler Pearson, steer wrestling; Matt Sherwood and Walt Woodard, team roping; Jacobs Crawley, saddle bronc; Shane Hanchey, tie-down roping; Amberleigh Moore, barrel racing; Trevor Kastner, bull riding.

Brody Cress, of Hillsdale, Wyoming, tied for second in saddle bronc riding. Cress, who won the NFR average last December in Las Vegas, earned $11,145 at Fort Worth.
