NEW YORK CITY — Volborg's Jess Lockwood finished 14th Sunday at the season-opening Professional Bull Riders' Unleash The Beast Monster Energy Buck Off at Madison Square Garden.

Lockwood won this PBR Major event last year, but this time around the title and $109,025 went to Gage Gay of Staley, North Carolina.

Gay, who scored a 90 aboard Cut The Chord in the championship round, was one of two perfect riders over the three days of competition. It was his first Major event win and also earned him 700 PBR world points.

Valdiron de Oliveira of Piranhas, Brazil, finished second, followed by Eduardo Aparecido of Gouvelandia, Brazil, Joao Ricardo Vieira of Itatinga, Brazil and Cooper Davis of Jasper, Texas.

Besides Lockwood, Shane Proctor, a former performer on the Northwest College and Montana State rodeo teams, also competed and placed 20th.

Lockwood is ranked 34th in the 2018 world standings with $4,900 in winnings
