LAS VEGAS — Barrel racer Lisa Lockhart and saddle bronc rider Brody Cress were first-round winners at the first performance of the World Champions Rodeo Alliance on Saturday night.
The WRCA event, put on by the Professional Bull Riders, concludes Sunday with the top four from each event returning for the second round with a clean slate. The top two then qualify for the finals.
Lockhart, originally from Circle, posted a time of 13.805 seconds, the only barrel racer with a sub-14-second round.
Cress, of Hillsdale, Wyoming, was 87 points in saddle bronc riding.
Other event winners were: Caleb Bennett, bareback, 86 points; Marty Yates, tie-down roping, 8.01 seconds; Riley Minor and Brady Minor, team roping, 5.21 seconds; Kyle Irwin, steer wrestling, 4.22 seconds; Claudio Montanha, bull riding, 87.75 points.
Montanha won the PBR event in Billings in April.

Reigning PBR world champion Jess Lockwood was less than one point behind Montanha, with an 87-point ride for fourth place.
